Many people dream of having a career as a writer. While technically anyone can start writing and call themselves a writer, if you would like to to earn a living as a writer then you must learn how to sell the words that you write.

Here are three ways to sell your writing.

1. Writing Magazine Articles

Magazines are traditionally one of the most popular types of market for freelance writers. Often magazines pay freelance writers in the vicinity of $0.15 to $0.35 per word. At the upper end are magazines that pay one to two dollars per word. These are typically publications with a huge circulation such as women’s magazines, travel publications, and even in-flight magazines.

2. Write Your Own Ebooks

Many freelance writers are now writing, publishing and selling their own ebooks on the Internet.   Ebooks take less time to write and publish than traditional books. And it is possible to manage the entire process yourself – you write an e-book then you publish it and get busy marketing and selling it.

Ebook authors typically get to pocket 50% to 90% of the price for each copy sold – and that is considerably better than the small percentage traditional book authors receive from each copy.

3. Blog for Money

Blogs are a great way for writers to earn some additional income . Blogs are fairly straightforward to set up and using a professional design is inexpensive thanks to plenty of ready-made blogging templates.

There are several common ways to get paid for blogging. These include selling advertising spots, showing advertisements for Google AdSense or ads for affiliate products, and selling your own information products and e-books .

A rising trend is for popular bloggers to turn their blogs into books, once they realize that their blogs are overflowing with great content on a particular topic.

There you have it. Three ways that you can start writing for money right now. Be proactive, start writing. And begin to see your writing business grow.

Copywriting is something that most internet marketers take for granted. You look at a sales page, and it sure doesn’t look hard to write. It isn’t until you try to write copy that you realize just how difficult writing good copy can be. Sales copy is like no other kind of writing, and you need to know how to write it if you want to make money from your sales material. Most people don’t have the time or energy to learn it, so they outsource it to the pros who know how to do it. You may want to consider learning something about it, though, even if you outsource so you can make a better judgement about how well your copy is written.

What could someone say about a product that would make you want to buy it? You know what draws you in when you are shopping. Pretend you are selling the product to yourself when you write your copy. This way, you will not use selling tactics that you find irritating. Find products that are marketed in a way that makes you inclined to buy them, and copy some of those techniques. Keep in mind that you are not only a marketer, but also a customer. If you would not buy your own product, then you can’t expect anyone else to buy it! Think, as you write your copy, on what words would convince you to get out your credit card. You’ll find that it’s much easier to sell to others when you’ve sold it on yourself first. Effective writing can create a sense of real urgency, but you should never try to exhibit pressure to make the sale. There must be no pressure, not even the faintest hint of it, otherwise you can just forget about making any sales. It’s easy to see this if you consider your own various situations in life. If a clerk follows you around saying “buy this buy this buy this” you will eventually leave the store (probably without buying anything at all). But you most likely did buy from the person who offered no pressure, explained the product benefits, and who was just polite and friendly.

Look at those who are successful in your market. Learn from what they do, check out their websites, etc. What kind of effects does it all have on you? What is it about the writing you read that stands out to you? What are your particular reactions to their sales copy? Do you want to buy their product after reading their sales letter, if so, why? You can use your answers in your own writing.

The only thing that will ever sell is words written by a copywriter. All of your marketing efforts rest on the strength of your sales copy. It’s not exactly rocket science or quantum mechanics – but it will take some time to learn. Even if you never write a word of copy, it will be in your best interest to not be totally clueless about it. That way you can do your own copywriting when you can’t afford to hire professional help.
